About Proclaim
Since 2006, Proclaim Speech and Debate has been equipping students to speak into the culture for Christ. Proclaim students learn together, work together, and support each other throughout the school year as they prepare their speeches and debate cases. Students listen and critique, engaging in meaningful discussions that result in growth and skill development. Parents also give feedback, helping students progress to producing a finished product. Iron sharpens iron. Friendships are forged.
Proclaim is parent-powered. Parents participate in facilitating activities as well as serving as judges/critique givers during practice times in club. As such, Proclaim is not a drop-off activity. We have and do make exceptions for single parents who have to work, parents who have small children, etc. We can work with those families, finding a way for them to participate as their schedules allow.
The bulk of instruction happens during the fall semester in both debate and speech; however, spring semester includes instruction on fine-tuning writing/speeches/1AC's, strengthening research briefs, and learning/improving speaking techniques. Outside instructors are often brought in to share their expertise. Additionally, Proclaim students are encouraged to take advantage of speaking opportunities in the community.
Proclaim families sign a statement of faith, and we do have a reasonable dress code for club. Students are encouraged to pursue personal excellence in a supportive environment of friendship and camaraderie.
